Summer 2021
The MLO Minute: By Nancy Potter, Esq. and Kimberly Caputo, Esq.
Extra year for 21-Year-Old Students with IEPs & Option to Repeat a Grade for ALL Students!!
Great News!! Governor Wolf has signed on Senate Bill (SB 664)!
The final version continues to contain the JULY 15th deadline for parents to act. This new law creates school-based opportunities for a now (21) year old to continue with IEP supports in the 2021-22 school year and Summer 2022 ESY. Similarly, a student with an IEP may also benefit from “repeating” a grade in 2021-22 and parents can now elect to have the repeat year for 2021-22.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education must now develop a standard form for use to elect to enroll a student in this additional year and make the form available on its website. As soon as it is posted, we will share the link with you.
