Spring 2025:
The MLO Minute: “WINGS FOR AUTISM RETURNS TO PHILADELPHIA” —
By Michael Connolly, Esq., Supervising Partner of the Special Education Department —
Many individual intellectual disabilities (“ID”) and developmental disabilities (“DD”) experience significant challenges accessing many places and engaging in routine activities that many of us take for granted. For example, public transportation can be an overwhelming event for many with ID/DD. The rehearsal program, Wings for Autism through the Arc of Philadelphia, will be returning to the Philadelphia Airport this May and will provide an amazing opportunity for individuals with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities to practice entering the airport, obtaining a boarding pass, going through security, and boarding a plane.

Making the Skies Friendlier for Everyone
Part of living a full life in the community includes being able to travel to faraway locations for both work and pleasure. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are entitled to this piece of community participation—just like anyone else—and should be able to navigate air transit comfortably to experience the same opportunities as every other traveler.
