The Newtown Square Historical Society invites you to their monthly program on Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00 p.m. at the Newtown Township Building to hear attorneys Dennis C. McAndrews and Joseph McGettigan of McAndrews Law speak on the murder prosecution of John DuPont.
John DuPont, heir to a DuPont fortune, owned an 800-acre estate in Newtown Square, and financed Team Foxcatcher, which offered training facilities for potential Olympic wrestlers on the property. Several wrestlers, including Olympic champion Dave Schultz, lived in houses on the property. On Friday, January 26, 1996, DuPont confronted Shultz in the driveway of his home, and shot and killed him in front of his wife. After a weekend standoff at his estate, DuPont was taken into custody. He was charged with murder. Dennis McAndrews and Joseph McGettigan were assigned to prosecute DuPont, one of the wealthiest men in America. The concern with a wealthy defendant is that they can buy the finest justice that their money can provide them: attorneys, experts, publicity, and spin. Dennis and Joe will present an insider’s look at the proceedings leading up to the 1996-97 murder trial of DuPont.
All programs are held at the Newtown Township Building, 209 Bishop Hollow Rd, Newtown Square, PA 19073 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free. Refreshments are served.
