The MLO Minute: “What Do Babe Ruth, Arnold Palmer, Olga Korbut, and the Education Law Center Have in Common?” —
By Dennis McAndrews, Esq. —
In one word: Babe Ruth, Arnold Palmer, Olga Korbut, and the Education Law Center are all “transcendent” in their fields. Babe Ruth transformed the game of baseball and became its most dominant figure through his dramatic home runs, remarkable athleticism, and buoyant personality. Arnold Palmer popularized the game of golf as never before seen, by providing exceptional magnetism with a common, personal touch that made everyone who has ever played or watched the game feel a connection to him. Olga Korbut’s 1972 Olympic performances are widely credited as redefining gymnastics, changing the sport from mere elegance to sophisticated acrobatics, and making gymnastics one of the most popular sports in the world. She immigrated to the United States in 1991, where she lives and trains gymnasts. In each case, these athletes’ sports owe so much to these individuals.
Similarly, the Education Law Center has transformed the world of education for children across Pennsylvania in more ways than one can count. Since our firm began its work in special education in the 1980s, we have enjoyed magnificent personal and professional relationships with ELC staff, and all of us who work in this field have benefited greatly from their knowledge, expertise, collaboration, and judicial victories which have changed the lives of children throughout our Commonwealth. Most recently, the ELC prevailed in a case which took many years to litigate by obtaining a final judicial decree that Pennsylvania’s system of funding for children must become more equitable to ensure the full educational opportunity expressly guaranteed for by Pennsylvania’s Constitution.
On September 27th, 2023, the ELC will be conducting its annual fundraising event, and our firm is proud to again sponsor this wonderful organization. We would encourage anyone who has benefited from the work of the ELC, or who simply wants to support this great organization, to consider attending. A link to the event can be found by clicking here! Thank you ELC!
