September 2018
Change starts with education!
September is National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month – a time dedicated to educating and destigmatizing a topic that is often very difficult to talk about. Each year, over 40,000 Americans die by suicide, falling in the top ten tier of leading causes of death overall. Throughout September, advocates and mental health professionals work to raise awareness and connect individuals with mental health resources. It is important to know that suicidal thoughts can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, etc. Change starts with education, and in an effort to end this epidemic, mental health organizations are working to teach the public about recognizing warning signs and symptoms.
